Actor Jeremy Strong (of Succession-fame) will headline and executive produce a limited series about the controversial Boeing 737 Max aeroplanes. The yet-untitled project is in development at Amazon Studios.

Written by Argo-writer Chris Terrio, the series is described as an examination of the events surrounding the Boeing 737 Max. Strong is set to play a composite engineer in the series.

In 2019, Boeing 737 Max planes were grounded worldwide after jet crashes in Indonesia (Lion Air Flight 610) and Ethiopia (Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302). 346 people died due to the crashes. The investigation following the incident revealed a defect in the automated flight control system called Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System. After being charged with fraud, Boeing admitted that two of its technical pilots misled the Federal Aviation Administration about the flight system. This led to Boeing paying $2.5 billion to settle the criminal case in 2021.

Further, Mark Forkner, a former chief technical pilot, was indicted for giving “false, inaccurate, and incomplete information” about the flight system to the federal regulators. He was subsequently acquitted and FAA’s ban on the Max flights was lifted in November 2020 after a clearance to resume service.

Terrio and Strong will executive produce with Plan B, Karim Amer and Jehane Noujaim.

Strong is best known for his performances in titles such as Succession, The Trial of The Chicago 7, Molly’s Game, LincolnThe Big Short, etc. The actor will be seen opposite Anne Hathaway and Anthony Hopkins in the upcoming feature film Armageddon Time.
